Guides, technical explanations and references

Duty and technical sources

In England and Wales, Fire Safety Order articles 13 and 17 cover appropriate firefighting equipment and its maintenance where necessary to safeguard people. Home Office offices and shops guidance describes monthly visual checks and annual competent maintenance. The manufacturer and actual equipment determine the programme.

Published price evidence

  • Fire Plus / RCR Services — £15 standard attendance plus £7.50 per annual basic service, excluding VAT. Basic consumables included. Travel beyond 50 miles from its Suffolk base costs extra. This formula is the model anchor.
  • PTS Compliance — £149 for up to ten units outside London or £169 in London, then £3.95 per additional unit. Confirm VAT and contract terms. A comparison example only, not used in our calculation.
  • Safelincs — Prices depend on site attendance and unit or blanket count. Basic spare parts are described as included. Obtain an itemised quotation.
Maintenance sequence
