Who can service fire extinguishers?

Select a provider that can evidence competence for the actual unit types and service stage. A company offering fire safety services is not evidence that every technician can perform every extinguisher task. Ask who will attend and which work is included.

Verify evidence for the work you are buying

BAFE SP101 addresses portable extinguisher organisations and their technicians. Where a provider claims that registration, check the current organisation scope and attending technician evidence. The Vendor Atlas directory records public provider claims and visible gaps.

  • Ask for relevant training, unit experience and the attending technician identity.
  • Check any claimed BAFE SP101 registration for organisation and technician.
  • Obtain report, defect escalation, insurance and subcontracting details.

What to do next: Use the evidence directory as a shortlist, then verify current appointment evidence directly. Ask every provider to return the same unit schedule with clear inclusions and excluded recharge or replacement work.

Evidence directory

The initial directory includes PTS Compliance, Safelincs and uRisk from their own service pages. Their coverage and described work are source-linked. This is evidence collection, not Vendor Atlas approval or an independent certification audit.

Technician and subcontractor

BAFE explains checks for the organisation and technician under SP101, including subcontracted work. Obtain the actual attending technician details rather than treating a website badge as evidence for the appointment.

Report and extra work

Request a redacted unit-level report example. Agree how defects, missing units and uncertain records will be reported. Require authorisation for extra work, and compare new equipment, disposal and return visits as separate commercial items.

Put the selection rules into practice

Use the directory to see the public evidence actually found, then send every shortlisted provider the same equipment brief and competence questions.
