Emergency lighting testing cost and quote scope

Dale Montague Electrical publishes £160 excluding VAT for an emergency lighting test of up to 25 points, then £6 per additional point. Vendor Atlas uses that one published formula with a visible planning buffer. The source does not establish nationwide prices or that every quoted test is an annual full-duration test.

Treat the range as a planning prompt

Hexo lists annual three-hour testing from £199 ex VAT in London and the South East; Wire Now lists annual duration testing from £225 plus VAT in its area. Those are starting prices, not upper limits. The calculator therefore uses the DME formula and labels its spread as a Vendor Atlas buffer.

  • Count each luminaire and exit sign by site; identify central battery units.
  • Confirm whether the quote is for a monthly function test or full rated-duration test.
  • State access, out-of-hours needs, reporting, VAT and remedial exclusions.

What to do next: Send the same fitting schedule and test type to each provider. Ask for a written, site-specific price and separate rates for failed batteries, replacement fittings, return visits and any temporary precautions.

Deterministic formula

The calculator starts at £160 per site for up to 25 points and adds £6 for each point above that allowance. It then shows a 25 percent buffer around the subtotal, subject to a £150 lower floor. The buffer is a planning assumption, not an observed market distribution.

Why quotes vary

Fitting number, system design, duration, access, central batteries, travel, occupancy and reporting change work. Medium or large premises and multiple properties often need bespoke quotes.

Keep repairs separate

The testing fee does not automatically include replacement batteries, luminaires, installation changes or a return visit. A failed fitting may require prompt action and temporary measures while protection is restored.

Published price evidence

Published prices are boundaries, not a market average

Vendor Atlas uses these provider sources only to constrain the deterministic planning model. Dates, regions, inclusions and equipment differ, so the result is not a market benchmark or a live quotation.

  • Dale Montague Electrical : Publishes £160 excluding VAT up to 25 points, then £6 per additional point, for an emergency lighting test; confirm annual full-duration scope and local applicability.
  • Hexo Electrical Testing : Publishes annual three-hour testing from £199 excluding VAT for London and the South East; medium, large and multi-site work needs a bespoke quote.
  • Wire Now : Publishes annual duration testing from £225 plus VAT for its London, Hertfordshire and Essex coverage; this is a starting price, not an upper bound.

What is still missing: awarded quote data normalised to the same asset schedule, access conditions and deliverables. The calculator shows every adjustment so it can be replaced cleanly as that evidence arrives.
