Buy a workplace noise risk assessment on comparable terms
Give each provider the same task, worker-group and shift map. Compare exposure method, controls advice and written output, not only the number of measurements.
A comparable quote must answer five things
- Which tasks, worker groups and shifts are included?
- Who is the named assessor and what comparable experience can they evidence?
- When will measurements or dosimetry be used, and how will exposure be estimated?
- Will the report compare action values and specify controls, actions and limitations?
- What travel, unusual shifts, return visits, health surveillance and VAT are excluded?
Information to assemble before requesting quotes
Mark unknown items explicitly. Discovery can be priced; hidden assumptions cannot be compared.
- Site addresses, access and operating hours
- Noisy tasks, process areas, machines and typical durations
- Worker groups, job rotation and shift patterns
- Earlier surveys, machine information and hearing-concern reports
- Existing noise controls and hearing protection
- Recent plant or process changes and desired report date

Required quotation format

Competence and evidence questions
Competence is specific to the equipment, system and judgement being bought. Ask about the proposed person, not only the company.
- Who will perform and interpret the work?
- What relevant occupational-noise training and experience does that person have?
- How will representative work and exposure uncertainty be handled?
- Which calibrated instruments and methods will be used?
- Can you show a redacted report with exposure and controls?
- What current insurance applies?

Do not add the scores blindly. Missing competence, equipment scope or statutory reporting can be a stop condition rather than a small disadvantage.
Report acceptance check
- Actual work and workers are traceable
- Task durations and sampled conditions are stated
- Exposure estimation method is understandable
- Relevant peaks and action values are addressed
- Uncertainty and exclusions are visible
- Controls are practical and prioritised
- Health-surveillance and hearing-protection implications are stated
- Review triggers and owners are clear
